Professor K. N. Joshi was born on April 28, 1952, in Jodhpur, India. He earned his Ph.D. in Geography from J.N.V. University in 1985, specializing in applied remote sensing for land and water resource development and management, as well as drought and flood studies.
He began his career as a scientist in the Remote Sensing Division of the Birla Science and Technology Center, Jaipur, where he worked for four years. He then served for about nine years as a Regional Geographer at the Environmental Planning and Coordination Organization, Bhopal, contributing to several Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) studies and a landmark environmental manual.
In 1993, he joined the Institute of Development Studies, Jaipur (IDSJ), where he worked for over two decades-eleven years as an Associate Professor and nine years as a Professor. Later, he was awarded a Senior Fellowship (2014-16) by the Indian Council of Social Science Resear ICSSR), New Delhi, based at IDS, Jaipur.
Prof. Joshi is accredited by NABET, MOEFCC, Government of India, as an expert in Land Use and Socio-Economic Studies. He has presented his research at international conferences and UN workshops in France, Libya, Nigeria, South Africa, Vietnam, Nepal, and Sri Lanka.
Over the course of his career, he has authored two books, edited three books, published 50 research papers, and completed 25 research projects funded by organizations such as the World Bank, UNDP, UNICEF, the Department of Space, and the Ministry of Rural Development.
